Mini train ride at Eltham Lower Park

In between the rain shower, we ventured to Eltham Lower Park to ride  the miniature train. We were lucky to take on the steam engine and sit on the first carriage. Tyler got himself covered in coal dusts.
The  train ride is only $3 and takes about 15-20 minutes to complete, making a few loops around. The kids love the tunnels and wave to other trains crossing from the other small bridge.

Ruffey Lake Park - Victoria Street

We had a great day at Ruffey Lake Park, Victoria Street. This is a very large playground with many play equipments. The kids love the sand play and running around the bridge to play hide-and-seek. They also love the long slide and never got tired of it.

Tyler: He is so obsessed with sandpit. Rain turns the sand into mud. messy messy.
Aiden: He wants to help with everything. He helps us to carry the picnic rug. Great effort.

Home making: beet kvass

Beet kvass is a fermented drink that serves as a refreshing blood cleanser and liver tonic. It is easy to make and is a nourishing drink for the whole family. It tastes a little bit of sour, salty, sweet and bubbly just like soft drink.

Following Nourishing Traditions
Ingredients
  • 2 large organic beets (roots only), peeled and chopped up coarsely; do not grate beets (see note below)
  • 1/4 cup whey or 1 tablespoon ocean sea salt (I tend to put less salt and the drink tastes better)
  • filtered water
Preparation
  1. Place beets, whey and salt into a 2 quart Mason glass jar or (2) one quart Mason jars, or any 2 quart glass container with a tight fitting lid
  2. Add filtered water to fill the container(s).
  3. Stir well and cover securely.
  4. Keep at room temperature for 2 days and then transfer to refrigerator.
  5. Drink one 4 ounce glass, morning and night.

NOTE: Do not grate beets in the preparation of beet tonic. When grated, beets exude too much juice resulting in a too rapid fermentation that favours the production of alcohol rather than lactic acid.

snippet... morning at the park

We go to the park in the morning nearly everyday. The food and air taste much better outside than inside. The kids ride on their bike and I get to collect flowers along the way.
