Ruffey Lake Park - Victoria Street

We had a great day at Ruffey Lake Park, Victoria Street. This is a very large playground with many play equipments. The kids love the sand play and running around the bridge to play hide-and-seek. They also love the long slide and never got tired of it.

Tyler: He is so obsessed with sandpit. Rain turns the sand into mud. messy messy.
Aiden: He wants to help with everything. He helps us to carry the picnic rug. Great effort.

Home making: beet kvass

Beet kvass is a fermented drink that serves as a refreshing blood cleanser and liver tonic. It is easy to make and is a nourishing drink for the whole family. It tastes a little bit of sour, salty, sweet and bubbly just like soft drink.

Following Nourishing Traditions
Ingredients
  • 2 large organic beets (roots only), peeled and chopped up coarsely; do not grate beets (see note below)
  • 1/4 cup whey or 1 tablespoon ocean sea salt (I tend to put less salt and the drink tastes better)
  • filtered water
Preparation
  1. Place beets, whey and salt into a 2 quart Mason glass jar or (2) one quart Mason jars, or any 2 quart glass container with a tight fitting lid
  2. Add filtered water to fill the container(s).
  3. Stir well and cover securely.
  4. Keep at room temperature for 2 days and then transfer to refrigerator.
  5. Drink one 4 ounce glass, morning and night.

NOTE: Do not grate beets in the preparation of beet tonic. When grated, beets exude too much juice resulting in a too rapid fermentation that favours the production of alcohol rather than lactic acid.

snippet... morning at the park

We go to the park in the morning nearly everyday. The food and air taste much better outside than inside. The kids ride on their bike and I get to collect flowers along the way.

Tyler: He met Thomas the Tank Engine the first time and rode on it for more than three times.
Aiden: He had his first hair cut by mama, and it was cut too short in the front...

Like father, like sons. Their looks of concentration on picking out the kiwi fruits are so much look alike.

Shopping for a new food processor

Everywhere is on sale. We went out to buy a food processor at target and the kids had some fun too. Since our first one was broken, we missed our nut butter so much. The self-made version tastes so much better and there's no preservatives and other nasty chemicals in it. I follow the recipe at My New Root and throw in whatever nuts I have on hand. The kids love this so much.

A Day at Wombat Bend

We love this playground. The garden is beautiful and there are so many features for the kids to explore. Our favourite is to enjoy the view while walking across the suspension bridge going over the river. Tyler loves the thrill of the flying fox. He plays this again and again. Aiden loves to explore and touches everything while wandering. We had a lovingly picnic under the sun and the kids are busy chasing the birds.

Tyler: I am in Jail.
Aiden: I want to be with you wherever you go.

Life lately......

Life lately is peaceful and happily. Aiden had cut down to only one nap a day now. Our outings became simpler and closer to home. We enjoy sunshine in winter and love the fresh air. We go for bike rides to the park, feed the birds, tree climbing, play the slides and swings.... It is good to see the kids are happy with simple things.

I found this inspiration from other mummy blogger site, but only started mid-year through, hence 1/26.

Tyler: A little cyclist riding on the bridge really fast and confident.
Aiden: A happy little wanderer in the brush enjoying sunshine and wind.
